Designed for homes with pets, this Dyson upright vacuum cleaner features
advanced Level 3 Root Cyclone technology to ensure thorough,
efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. Dyson
proves no loss of suction, best average pick up, and the
claim "overall outcleans other vacuums" using results from
IEC60312 Cl 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.8, 2.9, ASTM F608 and F558,
and DTM 755--an independently conducted Dyson test. Effective
for use on all floor types, the unit's motorized brushbar can
be turned on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or
turned off to protect rugs and delicate floors. The vacuum
cleaner also comes equipped with a quick-draw Telescope reach;
the wand releases and expands 16-feet at the touch of a button
for stairs and high-reach
cleaning. In addition, the unit's advanced mini turbine
head cleans pet hair from confined spaces such as upholstery,
stairs, and the car, and its low-reach floor tool attaches to
the wand to clean hard-to-reach places such as under beds and
sofas.
Thoughtfully designed, the unit's hygienic 5/8-gallon bin
quickly empties without ever having to touch the dust--simply
pull the trigger. The clear bin means no bags to buy, plus it
allows for easily viewing the cleaning progress and gauging
when it's full. Air expelled from the unit contains up to 150
times less mold and bacteria than common breathing air thanks
to the vacuum's money-saving, lifetime HEPA filter. Furthermore, Dyson
upright vacuums are the first and only vacuums certified asthma
friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. Other highlights
include 220 air watts, auto carpet-height adjustment, a 35-foot
cord, on-board tool storage, and an ergonomic design with a low
handle that feels lighter to carry. The included carpet-care
kit helps keep new carpets looking new. The Zorb powder absorbs
dirt from carpets; the Dyzolve spray removes spills and marks.

"We compared the DC14 and the DC17 along with our current Hoover Wind
Tunnel. The DC17 is the best of the three. It picked up dirt
the other two left behind. In particular, it picked up finer
dirt, which I assume came from deep in the carpet
pile.
The brush bar
on the DC17 worked far better than the DC14. One of the reviews
I read stated this is because it has its own motor and that it
is designed to work on American
carpets while the DC14 was designed for European carpets.
In addition, the DC17 is based on newer
technology."

"The DC17
Animal is amazing. After just vacuuming with my Hoover and then using
the DC 17 after I could not believe the gunk that it picked up.
Yuck....I do have a black lab and white carpet (stupid huh????)
and that means lots of hair but this vacuum is like a sucking
tornado. It gets everything. It seems lightweight and easy to
manuever. If you have pets, kids, or are just plain not into
housekeeping, this vacuum will amaze you with what it picks up.
These seem pricey but if you are smart and shop around you can
get a new one for way less than the $549.99. With a five year
warranty to boot, you cannot go wrong with this. It is worth
the money.."

"The
Dyson DC17 Animal picked up
more dust, pet hair and whatever than I care to disclose
publicly on a single oriental carpet in my home! The colors
of the carpet were unrecognizable and my wife vacuums
regularly with an Oreck XL! The first time we used this
Dyson we literally filled the clear Dyson bin three times!
(We never imagined we were living in such filth!) We have
one eight year old English Springer Spaniel and she sheds.
This machine is made to order for her! The Oreck which cost
about the same as the Dyson DC17 Animal is going to vacuum heaven. This vacuum is a
little pricey but if it holds up, it will be worth it. We
also bought a handheld Dyson which is a little bulky but
works well for small jobs."
